How Many Times Will God Forgive Me?
1) Direct Answer
God will forgive you every time you truly repent. There is no fixed number. As long as you come honestly, confessing and turning from sin, the door of mercy is open. The only sin the Bible marks as unforgivable is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit—but a heart seeking forgiveness hasn’t done that.
2) Scriptural Explanation
- Jesus told Peter, “not seven times, but seventy times seven” (Matthew 18:21-22). If He commands us to forgive that freely, how much more does God forgive His children.
- “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us…and to cleanse us” (1 John 1:9).
- “You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive” (Psalm 86:5). He casts sins “into the depths of the sea” (Micah 7:19) and removes them “as far as the east is from the west” (Psalm 103:12).
- The prodigal son shows the Father running to receive the repentant (Luke 15).
- Jesus said all sins can be forgiven except blasphemy against the Holy Ghost (Mark 3:28-29).
- This mercy is not a license to sin: “Shall we continue in sin…? God forbid” (Romans 6:1-2). “He that covers his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesses and forsakes them shall have mercy” (Proverbs 28:13).
- And if you stumble, “we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous” (1 John 2:1). He “is able to save…to the uttermost” (Hebrews 7:25).

- Now notice: Jesus removed the number from forgiveness. That shows God’s heart. He’s not counting; He’s cleansing.
- Forgiveness is not about how many times you fell, but whether you come in godly sorrow, confess, and turn. Real repentance brings real mercy.
- If you’re troubled and drawn to ask this, that’s the Spirit dealing with you. The very fact you care means the way back is open.
